Bloomsburg Dominates Philadelphia In Field Hockey

BLOOMSBURG —Kristi Ney (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) scored two goals to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 7-1 win over Philadelphia University Sunday.

Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) got the Huskies off to a fast start when she scored 5:04 into the game off of an assist from teammate Venessa Witman (Oley/Oley Valley). The Huskies next goal came just 2:31, when Ney scored her first goal of the day off an assist from Jamie Vanartsdalen (Philadelphia/Lower Moreland). After giving up a goal to Philadelphia's Katie Urso, the Huskies got back on the board after Brinley Geiger (Kutztown/Northwestern Lehigh) scored off an Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood) assist. Ney notched her second goal minutes later off another assist from Vanartsdalen to make the score 4-1 Bloomsburg going into the half.

Lauren Geiger (Kutztown/Northwestern Lehigh), and Maribeth Brozena (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) added goals in the second half to make the score 6-1. Both goals were assisted by Brinley Geiger. Morgan Wolf (Oley/Oley Valley) capped off the Husky victory after scoring a goal with just 35 seconds left in the game off an assist from Kelly Trevisan (Lancaster/Manheim Township).

Bloomsburg's Tracey Hudak (Sweet Valley/Lake-Lehman) and Allsion Ziants (Winfield/Selinsgrove) shared time in goal and combined for five saves. The Bloomsburg defense only allowed six shots in the win.

Bloomsburg, 3-0, will host Millersville on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
